Affiliate marketing is a way for individuals with minimal
computer skills, who do not know how to create a product or a website,
to "link up" with someone who does have skills, in order to market a
product. Becoming an affiliate means that one...
person will try to help sell a product or service for another person, and make a commission in the process.
person will try to help sell a product or service for another person, and make a commission in the process.
How does an affiliate make a commission? How does
anyone know what he sold or track his sales? When people sign up to
become affiliates, they are given individual, unique affiliate numbers.
This number code is coded into any link the affiliate uses while
marketing. If a sale is made, it is tracked back to the affiliate and
thus the affiliate can make a commission.
So how does an affiliate
market if he does not know how to create a website, how to create a
product, does not know how to code, does not know how to use graphics,
and does not know how to do anything involved with an online website and
product? The answer is this. He usually has to begin to learn how to
expand his computer skills.
The affiliate finds a company he
likes. He signs up. He gets a link to a marketing page with his
affiliate id coded into the link. He shares that link in various ways,
in accordance with the company policies. There is usually some kind of
restriction on the affiliate. These restrictions may be the typical
restrictions such as "don't spam" or they may include other
considerations. The affiliate needs to be comfortable working with the
company for which he is an affiliate.
In order to market as an
affiliate, a person usually embarks upon a season of learning. He learns
enough about a computer to copy and paste affiliate codes. He learns
how to find a company he likes enough in order to be an affiliate. He
learns how to evaluate affiliate offerings. He probably begins to learn
something about creating a mailing list and marketing to the list. He
may learn how to create a
WordPress blog. And while a person may begin
affiliate marketing with a minimal number of skills, the fact is, to be
an affiliate does require gaining computer skills. In the end, a person
who becomes an affiliate because of feeling incapable around computers
and not knowing much about how to run a business online, will probably
ultimately learn a lot of computer skills during his journey of being an
affiliate.
