Web Traffic and Affiliate Marketing

 Web Traffic

There are two basic methods which should be adopted when thinking about how to generate traffic to your website. These are either by paying to advertise your website or by generating a free traffic source. Although the latter will be more time...
exhaustive, both pathways will require an effort and discipline in order to take advantage of the opportunity the World Wide Web gives for people to establish a home business.

If we are to look into each of these methods, paid or free we will see both have their unique advantages and disadvantages. The first most obvious one is that the paid method requires an expenditure which if done correctly should produce a monetary return higher than it's outgoing. The free method although without the risks of financial loss will take more time but should be adopted as a matter of course. Over time, as you build your web presence via the use of your blog, techniques to generate the free website traffic method should be an ongoing process.

Oftentimes within the affiliate marketing world one source will advise on 'paid' another on 'free' claiming one is better than the other, but the purpose for generating website traffic has to be established. For example, there is no point obtaining traffic from a source which is not related to your niche. The traffic sources whether paid or free need to be targeted and need to be obtained for a specific purpose.

Organic traffic is that traffic generated from search optimization. If you have established a good niche, fine-tuned your search engine optimization (SEO) strategies this might be the only method you need to adopt if already achieving good success. This will very much depend upon whether your website satisfies the immediate need of the prospect or eventual customer. If you can achieve good sales by appearing on page 1 of Google for specific high converting keywords then this is maybe all you will need to do, but a cautious approach should be taken as Google may change their optimization algorithms which might mean that you lose your ranking. Finely and continuously tweaking your website in response to Google's changes is an approach that you would need to take, but this is a lot easier said than done.

With paid traffic on the other hand a very analytical and scientific approach must be undertaken. Again, this should be targeted and your landing page must deliver and provide an immediate solution for the prospects that land on the page. Google AdWords provides an assured page 1 appearance for certain keywords, but with this source being paid for a return on the cost of that ad must be achieved and as any good businessman will tell you, profit where income exceeds costs has to be achieved otherwise you will soon find that you will be out of pocket.

Both methods require discipline and hard work, but the key to continued success, however is to always know and understand from where your traffic is coming. To this end the task of split testing your paid ads must adopted and this traffic source should be differentiated from the organic traffic you receive from SEO. There are many other sources of paid and free traffic which are worth exploring but without doubt and to start off with, everyone should SEO optimize their website to achieve an initial ranking.
